The circulation of European films is key for promoting and celebrating Europe’s cultural diversity by making it possible for various audiences from different territories to have access, discover and experience different audiovisual works. While the current limited cross-border circulation of European productions between territories is constraining this possibility, it offers relevant unexploited market opportunities for the audiovisual ecosystem and especially the VOD actors to explore. FILMINXCHANGE is a flagship initiative aimed at tackling this need and leveraging relevant changes by investing in innovation and devising joint actions to scale up existing good practices. Build on the consolidated experience of Filmin, a well-established platform with demonstrated capacity to adapt to the constantly changing needs of the market, the project will study consumer behaviour and map untapped possibilities for new audiences’ outreach (particularly addressing the niche of senior customers, with the FilminSenior activities), translating findings into relevant technological development for improving accessibility and engagement. FILMINXCHANGE will also design and test a collaboration scheme for Festivals Exchanges (expanding and connecting the Atlàndida Film Fest and the SEE Online Film Festival), aimed at relevantly enhance the circulation and consumption of European content. The joint initiative is expected to inspire other players of the ecosystem and be further exploited to other territories, contributing both to the attractiveness of European VOD platforms that, offer a significant proportion of non-national European audiovisual works; and for the circulation and consumption of European content by cross-border audiences.
