The Rural Financial Sector Programme II supports Ugandan financial intermediaries in identifying financial products and business approaches in the area of rural and agricultural financing, developing them to market maturity and increasing rural lending by providing refinancing funds. The programme thus contributes to deepening and broadening the financial system and the development of the private sector and promotes the improvement of the economic and social situation of the target group (overarching development policy objective). The target group is the economically active part of the rural population in Uganda, in particular micro and small businesses and farmers, as well as the private households that benefit from their activities. Financial institutions in the formal and informal sectors are intermediaries.
