Description

Description

The project involves the expansion and equipment of the only academic teaching hospital in the Chinese province of Hainan (approx. 8.8 million inhabitants), located in the provincial capital of Haikou. It includes the construction of a new building complex for the outpatient and emergency medicine department and the acquisition of medical and building technology equipment for the currently heavily overloaded hospital. This includes, in particular, modern imaging equipment (e.g. MRI, CT). The project is intended to significantly expand the hospital's treatment capacity and the range of diagnostic and treatment options. The project will add 885 beds to the 1,125 existing beds and will allow around 40% more inpatients from all walks of life to be cared for each year. After completion, it is expected that around 40,000 inpatients and 960,000 outpatients will be treated per year. At least 70% of the funding will be used for hospital-specific equipment with an FC funding loan of EUR 30 million; the remaining amount will be used for construction work. A consultant financed by the BMZ's study and consulting fund is helping the hospital to procure high-quality medical equipment and is advising it on equipment maintenance and training employees to operate the equipment. The local government is also supporting the project financially. Its funds are being used to finance the construction of a new teaching building, which will improve the supply of qualified medical personnel to the hospital and the region.
