Description | A space-based solar power plant project by China aiming to construct solar power plants in Earth's orbit to harvest 100 billion kWh of energy annually and relay it to Earth, providing constant power. The plant will be approximately 1 km across and located more than 20,000 miles above Earth's surface. The project involves the use of heavy-lift rocket technology, including the Long March-9 (CZ-9) reusable heavy-lift rocket, to construct the power plants in space. Construction of the first experimental space solar power station began in Bishan, Chongqing, in June 2021. |
