First LNG-based Power Plant in Andaman Islands

The project involves the development of a 55 MW LNG-based power plant at Hope Town, Sri Vijaya Puram (formerly Port Blair) in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) will supply regasified LNG to the plant, which is implemented by NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVN). The project aims to reduce dependence on diesel-based power generation and promote cleaner energy sources in the island territories. The LNG will be transported via small LNG tankers to a Floating Storage and Re-gassification Unit (FSRU) offshore, and then piped to the power plant. The project has obtained Environmental Clearance and is undergoing final clearance processes including environmental impact assessments.
