Description
Description | This development policy loan (DPL) is the first operation in a series of two loans which span the period 2008-2010 and aim to support the Government of Brazi (GoB) efforts to (i) improve the effectiveness and efficiency of policies and guidelines of the Brazilian environmental management system; and (ii) further integrate principles of environmentally sustainable development in the development agenda of key sectors. By focusing on these sectors, the Sustainable Environmental Management (SEM) DPL series will support the GoB commitment to implement a model of accelerated competitiveness and growth while assuring improved environmental and poverty outcomes, which are pillars of the 2008-2011 Country Partnership Strategy (CPS). In this way, the SEM DPL series supports the GoB concerted efforts to promote the sustainable management of agricultural lands, forests, and water resources; reduction of deforestation in the Amazon; reduction of the environmental degradation of land, water, and other resources which are key determinants of the well-being of the poor; and promotion of renewable. |
