Description
Description | Across the EU, Romani youth face systemic exclusion and deep inequalities. Over 35% of Roma are under 15, and the average age is just 25—far younger than the EU average of 40—making them one of the youngest and fastest-growing demographics. Yet they remain largely invisible in youth policies and severely underrepresented in democratic processes. Despite this, few EU Member States include targeted Romani youth components in national strategies. The ERRC Roma Rights Network (ERRC RRN) is a coalition of Roma and non-Roma civil society organisations and advocates across Europe working to address these gaps. Representing 22 organisations in 16 EU countries and key non-EU states, the ERRC RRN supports Romani youth through non-formal education, advocacy training, and peer learning. During the framework partnership, ERRC RRN will contribute to Erasmus+ goals such as fostering youth civic participation, strengthening youth-civil society dialogue, and building cross-border solidarity, especially for youth with fewer opportunities. The ERRC RRN’s specific objectives are: Empower Romani youth to engage in civic and democratic life. Promote cross-border collaboration and shared learning among young Roma. Support youth-led advocacy addressing Roma rights issues. Key activities will include the Roma Rights Summer School, internships, skill-building sessions, and peer learning via the Digital Youth Space. Additional actions include developing cross-border collaborations and youth-led initiatives to combat online hate and raise awareness. These efforts aim to transform Romani youth engagement by building capacity, connection, and advocacy. They will enhance youth participation in civic life. In the long term, the ERRC RRN envisions a new generation of Romani leaders influencing policy and promoting social justice at all levels. Target groups: Romani youth, especially from marginalised or rural areas; Romani women, girls, LGBTIQ+ Roma; civil society; human rights defenders. |
