FirstEnergy 1,200-MW Combined-Cycle Natural Gas Plant and 70-MW Utility-Scale Solar Project

FirstEnergy proposed a 1,200-megawatt combined-cycle natural gas power plant along with 70 megawatts of utility-scale solar in West Virginia. The project aims to ensure reliable power, create jobs, and support economic growth. Construction is expected to generate over 3,260 jobs and $68 million in state and local tax revenue. Ongoing operations are estimated to support nearly 2,200 jobs and $85.9 million in annual tax revenue. The project plans to file with the West Virginia Public Service Commission in early 2026 to pursue either a partner-build-and-transfer model or independent construction. The site for the new plant has not yet been determined.
