Description

Description

Fish and Chips is a feature film that aims to cross European borders and bring together different cultures on two levels: the artistic and the economic. The goal is to narrate historical facts, in this case, the recent migration of Polish and Italian people to Ireland, while also portraying the cultural implications of these events. With this film, Italy, Ireland and Poland would see their backgrounds reunited in a story which conveys an important message: the experiences of multinational people can be united by their social history rather than their political borders. The objective is also to present the past difficulties of these countries through a lens of potential social and economic redemption. The project aims at being screened at A-list festivals, using these as a springboard for world-wide distribution. The activities needed to achieve this will range from collaboration between the director Giulio Squillacciotti and an Irish screenwriter to fully capture the culture and landscape in which the story will take place, research and casting work in three different countries, location scouting, costume and props research, travel and accommodation coordination, and more. The economic beneficiaries will not only include the filmmakers, but also the many people involved with the realization of this project: a variety of production facilities, restaurants, transport companies, accommodation, researchers etc. Another expected result is the strengthening of the already existing travel links between the three nations, links which allow for a summer flow of tourists, as well as family visits and economic migration. Finally, this co-development structure is based on the intention of establishing long term international working relationships, able to realize projects with both cultural and economic values.
