Description

Cage fish farming has the potential not only to increase fish supply and improve nutrition security on both the domestic and international markets but also to create jobs among poor households, and remove variability in terms of household income flow, and increase farm level efficiency and sustainability. This sector contributes about 3.2 percent of Zambia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). However, the growing demand for fish on the domestic and international market has resulted in overfishing leading to depletion of fish stocks on these water bodies. The aforementioned factors necessitated the fisheries sector to embark on aquaculture development and promotion with the aim of meeting fish demand and prevent the depletion of traditional fish spices in their natural environment
