Description

Description

The purpose of this cooperative agreement is to strengthen health system capacity for fistula prevention, detection, treatment and reintegration in priority countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. In selected settings, the Recipient will introduce and document approaches to address the problems of traumatic fistula and pelvic organ prolapse. The new project design will place emphasis on country ownership and partnerships with the private sector to enhance the sustainability of country programs. Specifically, the cooperative agreement is designed to achieve the following five objectives: Objective 1: Strengthened enabling environment to institutionalize fistula prevention, treatment and reintegration in the public and private sectors. Objective 2: Enhanced community understanding and practices to prevent fistula, improve access to fistula treatment, reduce stigma, and support reintegration of women and girls with fistula. Objective 3: Reduced transportation, communications and financial barriers to accessing preventive care, detection, treatment and reintegration support. Objective 4: Strengthened provider and health facility capacity to provide and sustain quality services for fistula prevention, detection and treatment. Objective 5: Strengthened evidence base for approaches to improve fistula care and scaled-up application of standard monitoring and evaluation indicators for prevention and treatment.
