Description

In December 2004, Civil Aviation Ministry (on behalf of the Government of Arab Republic of Egypt) signed a six year management contract with France’s Aeroports de Paris (ADP) to manage five regional airports in Egypt - Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada, Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbel. The management contract did not require any capital investment from ADP. The five regional airports handled some 10 million passengers between them in 2004. The management contract was a requirement for the US$ 335 million loan from the World Bank, which covered projects to double capacity at CIA and Sharm el Shaikh Airport. In June 2004, the Civil Aviation Ministry conducted an international competitive tender based on revenue sharing to award two management contracts for the Cairo Intenational Airport (CIA) and the five regional airports mentioned above. Fraport AG, the winner for both the bids, chose CIA since the tender for the contracts stipulated that two different bidders must be selected. ADP was awarded the management contract for the 5 regional airports The management contract became operational in early 2005. None None
