Flatbush Avenue Bus Priority Project

City officials began work to give buses priority on the traffic-jammed stretch of Flatbush Avenue between Downtown Brooklyn and Grand Army Plaza. The project includes building two-way bus lanes in the middle of the avenue, where cars will be barred from driving 24 hours a day, adding six large concrete islands for riders to board and get off buses, and widening sidewalks for pedestrians at intersections. The work is expected to be finished in the fall and aims to improve bus speeds and fix a long-standing bottleneck for Brooklyn bus riders.
