Floating Solar Panels on Doddabommasandra and Rachenahalli Lakes

Two lakes in Bengaluru, Doddabommasandra and Rachenahalli, have been selected for the installation of floating photovoltaic (FPV) solar panels to generate clean energy. The project has been approved by the Karnataka Tank Conservation and Development Authority and will be executed by Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited. The FPV panels will cover about 10% of the lakes' surface area and are expected to produce nearly 20 megawatts of electricity. The electricity generated could be used for lake maintenance and powering surrounding streetlights, and the panels will help reduce water evaporation, conserving water levels. The initiative is in early stages without specific budget allocations and may be replicated in other lakes across Karnataka based on performance.
