Description | Folly Road, one of South Carolina's most dangerous roads, is undergoing improvements to enhance safety and connectivity. The project includes the construction of sidewalks, crosswalks, and bike lanes to provide safer pedestrian and bicycle travel. The Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments has taken over project management and communication, and a new website has been launched to track progress. A significant upcoming project involves building sidewalks from Ellis Creek to just past George Griffith Boulevard and Walmart, which is currently out to bid for the third time. Additionally, the South Carolina Department of Transportation is working on a separate five-mile safety corridor project from Old Folly Beach Road to Maybank Highway. Full corridor connectivity may depend on a transportation sales tax vote in November. |
