Description

Description

The European Green Deal (2020) aims to set the EU on the path to a green transition. In order to achieve this aim, new strategies are emerged such as “From Farm2Fork” Strategy for a fair, healthy and environmentally-friendly food system. In addition to this, as part of the UN 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were set. The 4th SDG is «Quality education» which is related to «Decent work and economic growth» and «Industry, innovation and infrastructure» SDGs. Food law, in order to cover new social needs and situations that arise because of changing reality, is constantly updated. The ignorance of Food Business Operators (FBOs) about this kind of changes, negatively affects the essential priority for food safety and consumer’s rights protection. FLAVEaT project, as a driver of sustainable socio-economic development, aims to develop Continuing Vocational Education Training programmes in order to raise awareness of professionals in the food sector. Moreover, aims to strengthen the competences of food professionals, thus making them critical factors of change in promoting specific EU Green Deal strategies, as well as the exchange of best practices among the partner countries. Competences will be related mainly to food legislation, food safety and emerging aspects in the food sector, such as food safety culture, reduction of food waste, artificial intelligence (AI), 3D printing of foods, Computer Vision Systems, etc., thus contributing to the sustainable adaptation of food production. Food industry is one of those fields where AI can make an incredible impact on day-to-day operations–and ultimately transform food businesses in a major way. The use of computer vision systems enables automated and objective, inspection of foods. Targeted professionals are food scientists, technologists, engineers, lab analysts, as well as graduates from technical universities and colleges, which are newcomers in the food sector.
