Description
Description | 90% of global trade and 70% of Europe’s are shipborne. Therefore, the maritime and port sector is strategic for the European Union. Maritime and port operations worldwide have been involved in an unprecedented digital transformation. While digitalisation improves performance, safety, security and competitiveness, it also makes the maritime sector more vulnerable to cyberattacks, which have multiplied in recent years. Recognising the paramount importance of securing the cyberspace and digital activities in Europe, the European Union published the EU Cybersecurity Strategy and adopted in 2022 the NIS2 directive whose aim is to strengthen the protection of Europe's critical information systems. In this context, the SAFEDIGIMAR project aims to help the European maritime sector to strengthen their cybersecurity. It will bring together France Cyber Maritime, a French non-profit organisation whose mission is to contribute to the strengthening of cybersecurity for the maritime sector, Federazione del Mare, the Italian maritime cluster and FEPORT, the federation of European Private Port Operators. The SAFEDIGIMAR project will first raise awareness on maritime cybersecurity and the requirements of the NIS2 directive and will develop tailor-made solutions to strengthen the cybersecurity posture of the maritime industry. It will enable maritime industry players to put in place appropriate cyber security measures to protect themselves effectively and comply with European and international regulations. The SAFEDIGIMAR project will then contribute to build the resilience of the maritime sector against cyberthreats. It will monitor cyber threats and risks towards the maritime world, disseminate relevant information and warnings to maritime stakeholders and assist victims of cyberattacks from the maritime community. |
