Description

Description

New Hanover County is soliciting design firms to repurpose the old site of the Cape Fear Museum of History and Science. The project will transition the building from a primarily public-facing building to a collections and internal operations site. It will be completed in two phases: Phase 1 includes a space needs assessment, concept plan, and budget estimate scheduled from June to September 2026; Phase 2 includes architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, interior design, signage, site work, utilities, and construction administration services scheduled from October to December 2026. The redesign will provide office space, staff meeting room, artifact storage, research library, exhibit fabrication shop, print production space, exhibit storage, museum storage, collections workshop room, employee breakroom, and staff parking, with considerations for climate control, loading dock and freight elevator access, historic facade preservation, and building accessibility.
