As a public organization linked to the French Ministry or Education, Youth and Sports, Réseau Canopé develops a new and innovative online training platform for pre-service and in-service teacher training (K12). In the French educational system, the teaching of the European Union (history, construction, European citizenship, etc.) is clearly mentioned in the curricula. Teachers are strongly encouraged to seize the opportunity of events such as the European Day of languages in September or Europe DAY (May 9th) to address European matters and arouse the feeling of European belonging among their pupils. However, to attain the objectives detailed in the French curricula, teachers need both to receive appropriate and in-depth training about the EU. They also need to be equipped with attractive and relevant teaching material to deliver the proper and adequate teaching this subject deserves. Through this project 3 training modules for teachers will be designed. These comprehensive training modules will provide the necessary background knowledge for teachers to allow them to be confident enough to deliver an engaging and efficient teaching of Europe to their pupils. Together with these training modules 5 animated films aiming at introducing the youngest pupils (6 to 12) with the EU and arousing the feeling of European citizenship will be produced. The training modules will be published on e-inspé (name of the training platform) at the beginning of the year 2024. As for the 5 animated films they will be made available through the website Les Fondamentaux. This website received more than 15 million visitors over the past 12 months. The training platform will be accessible to all French in-service and pre-service teachers (more than 900,000) and will benefit from the support and communication of the French Ministry of Education.
