Fortescue Turner River Solar Farm

The Fortescue Turner River solar farm is a 690 MW utility-scale solar installation under construction in Western Australia's Pilbara region, approximately 120 kilometres south of Port Hedland. It is designed to supply renewable electricity to Fortescue's iron ore mining operations and is the final solar asset the company requires to achieve its Real Zero emissions target for Australian operations. The project involves deploying more than one million photovoltaic panels across approximately 1,400 hectares, with expected construction completion in 2028. It received federal environmental approval in January 2026 under the EPBC Act, with conditions including land clearing limits and habitat compensation payments for impacts on the Greater Bilby and Northern Quoll.
