Description

Description

FÉILTE (Fostering European Identity through Learning and Teaching about Europe) is an innovative Jean Monnet Learning EU initiative designed to integrate European studies into the Transition Year curriculum at Kinsale Community School. The project addresses a gap in European identity and citizenship education by providing structured learning, experiential engagement, and policy-related activities that enhance students' understanding of the EU, its institutions, and Ireland's role within it. We aim to deliver a taught curriculum through a Transition Year module of learning—the success of our Erasmus+ BEAG (Being European, Acting Globally) project suggests that students will be keen to engage with such an initiative, as it meets their learning needs and aligns with their aspirations for future studies. Rooted in the respect and promotion of shared EU values, including human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law, and the safeguarding of human rights, the course aims to cultivate a sense of responsibility and active citizenship. By exploring the historical evolution and institutions of the EU, students will gain the knowledge needed to appreciate the significance of these fundamental values in shaping the European landscape. The integration of thematic modules, interactive sessions, and collaborative initiatives across our curriculum serves as a catalyst for fostering a generation of informed and engaged global citizens. Through this comprehensive approach, the course seeks to contribute to the long-term goal of nurturing a European identity grounded in respect for diversity, democracy, and the principles that form the foundation of the European Union. Ultimately, FÉILTE represents an opportunity to celebrate all things European, emerging from exposure to Erasmus+ and the dynamic, evolving community of learners within our school.
