Description
Description | As a continuation of the redevelopment of Queen Elizabeth Park in the Newcastle Business District, the reconfiguration of the Fountain Head Lane corridor has been identified as one of the priority projects for 2021. This Lane is seen as a key access point in the attraction of new business into the Downtown and Queen Elizabeth Park and is considered a main link to the Miramichi River waterfront and customer parking. This project will see the City invest in creating a more pedestrian friendly entrance to the area that takes aligns with the work completed in the park. The goal is to provide users of the downtown core with an additional manner to connect these two critical areas of downtown development. The current access point is congested with a narrow stairway that is not conducive to safe pedestrian flow. In addition, it does not support physical distancing and other pandemic response considerations. The new concept design will see a wider, more barrier free laneway that will allow for a free flow of pedestrian traffic that always reinforces the concept of physical distancing. |
