Description | In December 2012, the company Foz do Brasil, a subsidiary of the Brazilian group Odebrecht, was awarded the 30-year concession contract to expand, rehabilitate and operate the water and sewerage facilities of four municipalities (Aparecida de Goiania, Trindade, Jatai and Rio Verde) located at the state of Goias. The contract was awarded by the state-owned water and sewerage company Saneago – Saneamento de Goias S.A. The population of the area was estimated at 1.2 million, and the private sponsor committed to reach a sewerage collection rate of 90% of the municipalities' population by the end of the contract. Foz do Brasil was awarded the contract by offering the best technical and economic package (details on the selection criteria was not available). Three other groups took part in the contest: the Brazilian construction company Mendes Junior along with the Spanish company Agbar; Aguas de Goias, a partnership of the Brazilian companies Ferreira Guedes, Trail Incorporadora, Enorsul Saneamento and Evolutti; Equipav. The contract was signed in July 2013, and the private sponsor took over the operations of the sewerage services in November 2013. The private sponsor committed to invest US$ 424.8 million (BRL 1 billion) over the life of the project, in addition to the payment of US$ 116 million (BRL 273 million) to Saneago for the concession rights. |
