Description
Description | CEP is the European network organisation for probation bodies and national authorities, providing leadership, support, unity and representation by sharing EU objectives and priorities in criminal justice. As the only European Union-wide network for probation, CEP has a pivotal role in the leadership of probation. In 2021 CEP has 88 members (probation services, Ministries of Justice, NGOs, universities, individual members) representing 44 European jurisdictions. The overall goals of CEP are to bring together practitioners, managers, academics, stakeholders and others working in the field of criminal justice from all over Europe; to improve professionalism in this field; to raise the profile of probation on a national and a European level. CEP achieves these goals by: disseminating information and knowledge concerning legislation, jurisprudence and probation practice; working with the European Commission, Council of Europe and other EU bodies; supporting and contributing to research in the field of community sanctions and measures; organizing events; participating in trans-national projects for the development of initiatives in community measures; and by publishing information on developments and best practices related to probation, community sanctions and resettlement of offenders in Europe in the CEP newsletter, website and social media. CEP also manages regular contacts with European institutions (EU, CoE) and visits to EU Member States to promote probation interests. CEP, through consultation with the European Commission DG-Justice, members and experts, identifies emerging or on-going issues. For the four-year plan CEP will address topics such as FD’s 829&947, violent extremism, mental health, domestic violence, young offenders, foreign nationals, sex offenders, technology in probation, volunteers in probation, alternatives to pre-trial detention and assessment. CEP will maintain the use of digital and innovative resources to enhance communication with members. |
