The Fraser Valley Hope and Area Recreation Centre Geothermal Heat Recovery project will install a heat capture and storage system that will use the excess heat produced by the Centre’s ice and curling rink’s refrigeration systems, a geothermal loop to capture waste energy from ice making compressors to heat the buildings and pool, and ammonia and freon compressors will be upgraded to modular chillers that are safer and environmentally friendly. This project will increase the energy efficiency of the building. The project works will include: - geothermal heat pump system; - ground heat exchanger; - ground source heat pump; - energy transfer pipe; - water source heat pumps; - modular chillers to replace Freon-R12 and ammonia refrigerants; and - thermal storage buffer under Ice-Rink.
