Free Test Tickets for Commuter Trains by VR Group

Finnish operator VR is offering free tickets for commuter trains, where train rides can be ‘tested’ free of charge for 24 hours on a predetermined day in an effort to convince people to choose the train above their car. VR likely hopes that people who regularly commute to work via car try out the free ticket and afterwards are more inclined to choose the train in the future. The operator emphasizes that “train travel is always an environmentally friendly choice and often cheaper than traveling by car.” Commuter train rides can be tested from Järvenpää on Tuesday 17 May, from Hyvinkää on Wednesday 18 May and from Riihimäki on Thursday 19 May. After selecting the departure station and filling in their own information, people will receive a free ticket valid until the end of the test day in question on the train path. During the test driving days, VR’s series commuter tickets for 10 journeys are also on sale at a 20 per cent discount. These tickets are valid on a route chosen by the passenger in both directions for ten journeys, which are a cheaper option for people who commute to work and often travel on the same stretch.
