Freedom Drive Seasonal Closure and Proposed Permanent Closure

seasonally closed with proposal for permanent closure

Freedom Drive inside Forest Park in Queens was closed to vehicles during the pandemic, allowing pedestrians and cyclists to use the road. It reopened to traffic last year but is currently closed to vehicles from April through October each year. Some residents and activists are pushing to have the road permanently closed to cars for safety and environmental reasons, citing a reduction in crashes and injuries since the road was made an open street.
