Description
Description | The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans is undertaking the French Quarter transmission main project to replace and upgrade aging infrastructure including transmission mains, drainage lines, sewer lines, and utility services. The project began in September 2025 and is funded through FEMA's Joint Infrastructure Recovery Request Program. It involves full replacement of 1,600 feet of 24-inch cast iron transmission mains, replacement or upgrade of 2,000 feet of drainage lines and catch basins, inspection and repair of 1,500 feet of sewer lines, new water and sewer service connections, and upgrades to Entergy electric and Delta gas infrastructure. The project was delayed due to events like Super Bowl LIX, Mardi Gras, high Mississippi River water levels, discovery of historical artifacts, near-freezing temperatures, and heavy rain. It is expected to be completed by late fall 2026. |
