Description
Description | "Our high school, IES Gerardo Diego, is located near Avenida de Europa in Pozuelo de Alarcón, a small town in the Comunidad de Madrid. Our project envisions an imaginary journey from this main avenue, intersected by streets named after major European countries and cities, to the Schuman Square in Brussels, a symbol of the European Union's founding ideals. The goal of this project is to teach students the values of the European Union, how the EU (henceforth European Union) functions and how it can contribute to a better future. To achieve this goal, the creation of an assigned space within the high school, is proposed: the “Aula Jean Monnet”, to be designed as a modern agora, and equipped with specialized resources (books and digital tools), to access the foundation for the educational program desired, for approximately 420 teaching hours. A pedagogical plan focused on mapping various paths to Europe, has been developed, which will increasingly help students to understand what it means to be European. This plan is guided by Jean Monnet's inspirational words: ""The road to Europe is the road to peace."" This program is designed, not only for students enrolled in the “European Union” new subject, but also for those in other disciplines. Approximately 289 students (ages 14-16) per year, will directly benefit from it, while the entire high school community will undoubtedly feel its impact. The ""Aula Jean Monnet"" will ensure the project's sustainability by providing a hub for sharing knowledge with students, families and stakeholders. To celebrate The European Day, a special event will be hosted where students will showcase their work. In terms of educational methodology, the here presented approach, is rooted in active learning, with an emphasis on gamification or example, students will collect stamps is in a ""European Union passport"" as they complete tasks, culminating in a study trip to the European institutions.
