From our local traditions to a common European citizenship

TRADITIONS2EU is a project of cooperation and construction of a common European citizenship through the differences, traditions and identity of two municipalities, Bengasuil in Spain and Sulmona in Italy. The project, which stems from the previous relations of both municipalities in terms of European projects, aims to be an opportunity to raise awareness of the cultural and gastronomic traditions of both municipalities. The target audience will range from the young to the elderly, to create an intergenerational experience and raise awareness of the impact of the EU on everyday life. Small municipalities have, in fact, many local events throughout the year that revive traditions passed down from generation to generation. Thanks to EU funds, we will be able to give citizens a hands-on experience of the richness and diversity of the Union and make them aware that this cultural diversity is a milestone for the European Union. The project aims both to enhance the excellence of these municipalities and to strengthen and reinforce the role of local and regional authorities in the development of their leading industries and tourism. To this end, the project will last for 12 months, during which two events will be held to enable a total of 100 citizens to participate in exchanges that will enable them to learn about other cultures and disseminate their own. The project will also have an impact on the entire population of both municipalities. At the heart of this project is local gastronomy, as both countries are known worldwide for their cuisine, their cultural heritage and their young generations. The latter are the future of the EU, so first and foremost they need to internalize EU values.
