Description | The project Frumentum plans to develop a sustainable and bio-based plastic made from lignin and keratin. In this compound a wood and horn fibre content from the existing spectacle production of the company ROLF is to be integrated. In the further course, the spectacle frame will be developed from the innovative material, which will be marketed by ROLF. To bring a frame made of bio-based plastic on the market, the material must be appealing design and equipped with different properties. In order to realize this, in close cooperation with the MCT (Material Center Tyrol) in Innsbruck and the Transfer Center for Plastics Technology in Wels, certain properties are extracted from the materials lignin and keratin and combined to form a plastic. The spectacle frame will be created completely without metals.The material and thus the spectacle frame should stand out from conventional injection molded products and radiate a high value. The developed material with appealing design could then be used in various industries, such as the toy, furniture, smartphone industry and more. come to fruition. |
