Ftaa Negotiation (alca)

The objective of the project is to effectively respond to the request from 34 Heads of State and their Trade Ministries that the IDB, OAS, and ECLAC, in the framework of their Tripartite Committee, provide technical support to the negotiations for a Free Trade Area of the Americas. During 1999-2000 the project will mobilize technical support requested by the various negotiating fora through a series of short term consultancies in highly technical and specialized trade issues, the specific content of which changes according to the focus and pace of the negotiations themselves. The fora earmarked for receiving support from the project are the Trade Negotiating Committee(the executive arm composed of Vice Ministers of Trade), four Negotiating Groups and two FTAA technical support Committees. This project is entirely separate from the recent RTC approved for the FTAA Administrative Secretariat which is exclusively for logistical support of the negotiations at its Miami site.
