Description | The FUEL power plant was a 40 MW generation plant built and operated by FUEL Steam and Power Generation Co. The plant runs on bagasse (a sugarcane byproduct) and coal. Generation began in October 1998, and the plant sold its electricity to the Central Electricity Board of Mauritius (the state-owned electricity utility) through a 20-year take-or-pay power purchase agreement. The plant was the second such project independently constructed in Mauritius. FUEL Steam and Power Generation was owned by the Sugar Investment Trust (20%, a Mauritius public company) and other local investors. There was no available public information on project costs. |
