The project involves selling Fukuoka airport operation rights to a private business. Japan is proposing a 30 year concession contract to run the airport, which handles around 21 million passengers a year.The government of Japan plans to use funds from the transaction to develop a a second runway. The project involves the construction of a 2.5 km runway west of the current 2.8 km runway and establish such facilities as a landing area and a guide path.Under the terms of contract, the consortium, dubbed Fukuoka Airport HD  group, will be responsible for revitalizing the airport and surrounding areas to become a key transport hub in the region for long term trade and business development, according to a statement.The scope of business includes operation of the airport, passenger terminal and parking facilities.
