Description

Description

The project is aimed at young people and young adults aged between 15 and 24 from the current refugee population, the Rohingyas who came to Bangladesh from previous waves, and the young people of the host population. The aim of the project is to enable 70,000 young people and young adults inside and outside the Rohingya refugee camps to lead self-determined and peaceful lives by teaching them basic skills, access to protective measures and active participation in the community by 2023. This is intended to help young people develop healthy self-esteem and courage to live, to lead their lives actively and creatively and to be able to cope with difficult phases of life. In this way, the peaceful coexistence of young people from different groups and positive behavior are to be promoted and negative behavior is to be curbed. The following measures are planned to achieve this goal - creation of protected and accessible spaces for young people and young adults inside and outside the Rohingya camps by building and equipping 50 multi-purpose centers and 6 youth clubs; - Access to life skills training as well as further and vocational education for adolescents and young adults in the Rohingya camps; - Development of a security network and training of teachers, social workers and community members to provide adequate protection and counseling measures (including GBV services). - Strengthening the resilience of 70,000 adolescents and young adults to violence, abuse and exploitation, including through active participation in the community. The measures are intended to help adolescents and young adults become aware of their self-help capacities and learn skills for a self-designed life. This is intended to show new perspectives beyond criminal activities, political radicalization or early marriage. We expect this to have positive effects in the education and informal training sectors and at the same time open up new opportunities for generating income. The target group consists of adolescents and young adults who have fled since August last year, young Rohingyas who have been living in the country for a longer period of time and Bangladeshi youth in the Teknaf sub-district. Around half of the young people are girls. By addressing all groups of young people together, the existing and growing lines of conflict are to be minimized. UNICEF has been commissioned to implement the project, and is now offering programs for young people (15-24 years old) based on the learning centers that were supported as part of the transitional aid project for children affected by the Rohingya crisis. Other programs have already reached 40,000 young people through youth clubs, where they have completed an initial so-called life skills program, which is to be expanded and deepened with the proposed measures. UNICEF will implement the new project, similar to existing projects, through local NGOs in accordance with current UNICEF procedures.
