Description

Description

In line with the first phase of the project, the overall programme objective is to increase the protection and resilience of Rohingya youth through access to training and protection services. After project implementation, 75% of the young people who benefit from the measures should report improved well-being and feel better equipped to deal with stress in everyday life. With funding of EUR 3.5 million, the second phase of the project will provide young people in the Rohingya camps and the host communities with improved access to vocational training and skills development, including post-training support and psychosocial care. By imparting basic skills, access to psychological protection and counselling measures and active participation in a community that is sensitised to their well-being, young people will be enabled to shape their lives independently and peacefully. The second phase builds directly on the results of Phase I by using the 50 multi-purpose centres for training activities and addressing the successfully trained young people with a view to creating income opportunities. The project success will be measured by the following indicators: - 5,000 young people aged 15-18 (3,750 in the camps, 1,250 in the host communities) have access to life skills training, further and vocational education, psychosocial support and leisure activities; - 5,000 young people aged 15-18 (3,750 in the camps and 1,250 from the host communities) who participated in further training measures in Phase I will receive technical and financial post-training support; - 2,000 young people aged 10-14 who are not addressed by learning centers will receive access to life skills training, psychosocial support and leisure activities; The KWI measure aims to increase the resilience and personal responsibility of refugee youth and young people in the host communities by building structures. This also includes the integration and active role of young people in their communities. The combination of violence against women, heightened security issues and traditional beliefs influence girls' participation in education and training. A sensitive and balanced strategy developed jointly with parents and the community is needed to raise awareness and change attitudes towards young girls' education. Sensitization and training of officials on gender and related issues such as GBV and prevention, peaceful coexistence is therefore an essential part of the KWI intervention. The immediate target group of the KWI intervention consists of 12,000 young people aged 10-18 in the Rohingya refugee camps (8,600) and the host communities of Teknaf and Ukhiya (3,400). Although young people make up a significant proportion of the total refugee and host population, this group remains underserved. Meeting their needs, especially for a more self-determined life, is crucial given the risks that the unstable life in camps and settlements poses for young women and men. Improved access to training will enable young people to take advantage of income-generating opportunities directly in the refugee camps, while also preparing them for further options if they return to Myanmar.
