Description

The MTA is modernizing the G train's signal system, which dates back to the 1930s, by installing a state-of-the-art Communications-based Train Control (CBTC) system. This project aims to provide more reliable service to the 160,000 daily riders of the G train. The project involves suspending G train service between Court Square and Bedford-Nostrand Avenues on select weeknights and weekends through August 18, 2025, with free shuttle bus service provided during closures. The project is part of a long-running signal modernization effort and is expected to be completed by 2027, with a total cost of $368 million. Once completed, the G train will be the third subway line in New York City to be fully converted to CBTC, following the L and 7 trains.
