The Chengdu-Chongqing expansion project is invested and constructed by Shudao Group, led by Sichuan Highway Company under Shudao Group, designed by Sichuan Highway Design Institute, and constructed by Sichuan Road and Bridge. The total length of the project section is 46.93 km, as the whole route is about 189.7 km. It adopts a two-way eight-lane design and some sections are two-way six-lane, with a designed speed of 100 kilometers per hour and some sections are 120 kilometers per hour. Construction work started on December 5th, 2024. The total investment of the Ziyang section is about $1478.9m or 10.745 billion yuan. Subsequently, the Neijiang section and Chengdu section of the Chengdu-Chongqing expansion project will also be started in sections after obtaining land use approval and completing the construction requirements.
