The Construções Gabriel A. S. Couto, S.A. project in Mozambique had as its starting point the construction of a new aerodrome under a design/build regime located in the city of Palma, in the district of Cabo Delgado. The aerodrome will serve as the main means of transporting passengers to and from the region, supporting the installation of companies in that area and playing a leveraging role in the national and local economy. Through its investment, Construções Gabriel Couto A.S. Couto, S.A. mobilized more than 200 local workers for its works (direct employment), to which were added indirect jobs related to the subcontracting of services, especially with the operationalization of the aerodrome and of all related infrastructures. At the same time, through various social actions planned by the company, it is expected to improve the living conditions of local communities. The company develops a set of rigorous procedures with regard to environmental impact, promoting waste management policies, vegetation cleaning, conservation and preservation of vegetable land, wastewater management, water consumption management, among others. In addition to environmental concerns, there is also a series of ongoing activities aimed at the local community through support for various social causes (improvement of access conditions – streets, donation of protective equipment to local hospitals, transformation of containers into libraries, awareness raising for basic health care, logistical support for local schools).
