Gambia - Coastal Protection Project

The present intervention concerns the Coastal Protection Project. The Gambia Coastal line is an important social and economic asset to the Government of The Gambia. It is a source of nutritious food such as fish for the people of The Gambia. The coastline facilitates trade, agriculture and tourism activities that generate employment not only for the people that reside along the coastline but spread its linkages with various economic sectors across the country and beyond. The project contributes towards achieving the sector goal that is aimed at conserving and promoting the rational use of natural resources for the benefit of the present and future generations in a manner that is consistent with the overall goal of sustainable development and poverty reduction. The project consists of: (a) Civil Works for implementation various mitigating measures to control beach erosion and sedimentation at Barra Ferry Terminal; (b) Consultancy Services for (i) Supervision the civil works, training of national counterparts to be assigned to the PIU and setting up of the CZMU; (ii) External Auditing of the project activities; and (c) System Equipment and Related Services for coastal sustainability works.
