Description | The Education II Project aims to contribute to government’s efforts to improve the quality of teaching by decentralizing government services to the school system at the regional level. The project is expected to improve quantitatively and qualitatively the structures that support teacher education, particularly at Gambia College. It should also strengthen the administrative capacity of the three main technical divisions and plan the future development of national education. The expected outputs are: i) 4 Regional offices renovated; ii) 2 Sub-regional offices renovated; iii) 5 Staff quarters renovated; iv) 6 new staff quarters constructed; v) 4 New inspectors’ houses constructed; vi) 4 Resource centres extended; vii) 2x30 bed dormitory blocks constructed, furnished and equipped; viii) block of 4 lecture rooms and a shed (open kitchen) constructed; ix) An extension to the Library undertaken; x) 3 Technical divisions of MEYSC renovated and equipped xi) 49 educational staff externally trained; xii) 3 Preparatory studies carried out; xiii) Renovation done to the PCU offices furnished and equipment provided; and ivx) Training of PCU staff carried out. The project has five main components, namely: i) Strengthening Regional Education Facilities; ii) Developing Teacher Training Facilities at Gambia College; iii) Upgrading of Three Technical Divisions of MEYSC (DoSE); iv) Preparatory Studies; and v) Support to the Project Coordination Unit (PCU). |
