Gambia - Rehabilitation of Health Training Facilities Project

The Rehabilitation of Health Training Facilities Project is designed to strengthen the capacity of the health training facilities in the Gambia by expanding and improving the technical skills of students graduating from the School of Public Health and the School of Nursing and Midwifery. The project aims to expand and improve health care coverage and enhance special services provided to the most vulnerable segment of the population, mainly women and children. In addition, the project should strengthen primary health care delivery through support being given to maternal and child health care programmes, and training of traditional birth attendants (TBAs) and community health workers (CHWs). The principal components of the project are: i) Civil works (rehabilitation of the Gambia School of Nursing and Midwifery (GSNM) and Gambia School of Public Health (GSPH), construction of MCH facilities and EPI vaccine stores); ii) Technical Assistance and Training, iii) Support to Maternal and Child Health /Family Planning; iv) Support for the Project Implementation Unit; and v) Supply of equipment and furniture.
