Gamesa was planning the development of the 200MW Gamesa Gabal el Zeit Wind Farm, 400km south of Cairo. Gamesa was to supply 100 turbines of the G80 type, 2.0MW each. Turbines were to be supplied by 2013. The contract was signed in January 2012, reported here as under development in 2011. The project was tendered in September 2009, and was open to 10 shortlisted firms. Initially, 72 firms were interested. The projects were to be commissioned by 2014. No financial closure was reported. The project was expected to be funded by the KfW, the EIB and the EU Neighborhood Investment Facility (NIF). In 2010 it was reported that Japan promised a $432 million soft loan. An estimated cost of $432 million was maintained here (Japanese potential loan). This seems to be either old information, of a separate wind farm.
