Description | This project will decommission Garwood Lake Dam. The dam is an earthen embankment, approximately 276 feet long and 36 feet tall. The crest is an average of 30 feet wide and oriented roughly east to west. The upstream and downstream slope is about 3H:1V. The principal spillway consists of a corrugated metal pipe (CMP) riser intake and a 10-inch CMP exiting near the downstream toe. The dam currently impounds a lake and unnamed tributary of the Etowah River. Decommissioning is intended to restore the natural drainage of the watershed, removing the pond and risk associated with water storage as well as long term dam maintenance requirements. |
