Description | A gas-fired power plant is planned for a rural property near Midgic in Centre Village, Tantramar municipality. The plant will employ over 100 people during construction and 8-10 maintenance and operations technicians thereafter. The project is being developed by PROENERGY Canada, a subsidiary of a Missouri-based company, and NB Power will buy power generated on the site for at least 25 years. The plant aims to complement renewable energy sources by providing grid stabilization and backup power. Construction is slated to start in 2026 with commissioning expected in late summer 2028. The project is currently undergoing a federal environmental impact assessment with a comment period open until August 1, 2025. |
