Description

Description

Gas Malaysia was incorporated on May 16, 1992 as a Malaysian-Japanese joint venture company which was to implement the Natural Gas Distribution System (NGDS) project, which involves the distribution of natural gas to industrial, commercial, and residential consumers along the Peninsular Gas Utilisation (PGU) pipelines. Shareholders are: Malaysia Mining Corp (MMC) which is comprised of Shapadu Holdings Sdn Bhd 55%, Petronas 20 %, and Tokyo Mitsui & Co 25%. Malaysia Gas has been operational since December 1992 and serves almost exclusively industrial consumers. The company obtains gas from city takeoff points along the PGU II transmission pipeline, from which it is authorized to build feeder and distribution pipeline networks. Gas Malaysia has built a 26km network in the Klang Valley, supplying the Subang, Damansara, and Petaling Jaya areas, and intending to extend the Klang Valley grid, to build a ring main to supply Kuala Lumpur, and to expand coverage westward with the completion of the PGU III pipeline in 1998.
