Description

Description

Gastronomy for European Citizenship’s (GASTRO4EU) main objective is the creation of European links and the transfer of know-how between European municipalities with gastronomy as the axis. Thus, the project intends to create a space for communication and promotion of Mediterranean gastronomic culture between Bétera (Spain), Alenquer (Portugal) and Vimercate (Italy) to create a twinning between them. The aim is the municipalities recognized for their culinary tradition cooperate with their European counterparts; thus, producing an exchange of cultural knowledge and expertise in the gastronomic field. All by reinforcing the gender perspective in a traditionally men’s sector, and, with the intention of helping the touristic and gastronomic sector to overcome Covid-19’s consequences. What is more, another goal will be to bring together the EU, the local entities, and the citizens. The participating municipalities belong to European regions recognized by its gastronomical richness and tradition: Bétera, known for the artichokes and beans; Alenquer known for its wine; Vimercate for its Oreno potato. They will expand through Europe their gastronomy knowledge to raise awareness of the cultural opportunities that the EU has. GASTRO4EU will have 4 activities. First, a kick-off event celebrated in Vimercate, where the objectives and steps of the project will be presented. Later the Gastronomical Congress will take place in Alenquer, where experts in the field will give the participants the opportunity to learn about the different gastronomical traditions. The knowledge applied will be used for the creation of a multicultural gastronomical experience that will be presented in the “European gastronomy week”. In this last event, celebrated in Bétera, both the professionals of the sector and the citizens will participate. Finally, GASTRO4EU aims to sustain its results through time, by the celebration of new editions and the dissemination of the idea to other parts of Europe.
