Description | The Town of Butner in Granville County, North Carolina, is studying potential changes to Gate 2 Road/Central Avenue to spur residential, commercial, and industrial development. The project includes breaking the road into three sections for improvements: west of Interstate 85 to where Gate 2 Road turns into Central Avenue, including building a new road to access 400 vacant acres planned for mixed-use development called "Butner Gateway"; streetscape enhancements on Central Avenue from A Street to Westbrook Drive to add bike lanes, larger sidewalks, trees, and flowers; and roadway design improvements east of Interstate 85 to Will Suitt Road to support industrial development. The road is owned and maintained by the North Carolina Department of Transportation. The town and engineering firm Kimley-Horn are soliciting public feedback on the potential designs. |
