Description

Description

Poland's state-run gas transmission operator Gaz-System plans to add a 4.5 billion cubic metres per annum capacity floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) at the Baltic Port of Gdansk. This second FSRU would be installed next to the first unit, which has an annual import capacity of 6.1 Bcm and is scheduled to become operational in the first quarter of 2028. The expansion is being pursued cautiously despite market screening indicating demand could exceed availability by more than four times by the early 2030s. The final investment decision will be made after the binding open season procedure is completed. Construction of the onshore terminal and supporting infrastructure for the first FSRU is ongoing, with the offshore part scheduled for completion in 2025. Some welding non-conformities were detected in anchor piles from Algeria, but these do not affect project implementation or infrastructure quality. A new batch of anchor piles is being procured from a European supplier.
