Description | The Gelegele Seaport is a planned deep water port project in Gelegele Community, Ovia North-East local government area of Edo State, Nigeria. The project aims to have an initial container capacity of about 1 million TEUs annually, expected to grow to 2.7 million and 4.5 million TEUs. It is intended to become one of the largest deep water ports in the region and serve as a hub for port operations in the Southern region of Nigeria. The project has undergone various preparatory stages including soil testing, environmental impact assessment, and geological survey. It is expected to generate up to about 10,000 direct and indirect new jobs in the Edo economy once completed. |
